This Spring and Summer, the Town of Golden is asking residents to be mindful of water usage and go to every effort toconserve – this time for more than just the usual reasons.

During a recent highway closure, a transport truck struck the building housing our second highest producing well, severelydamaging it. Damage to the electrical and mechanical components is unknown at this time, and structurally the facility is awrite-off. Due to the complexity of the facility and potentially long delivery times for replacement components, we anticipatethe pumping station will be out of service until fall.

As a result, it is important that we come together as a community and make every effort to conserve water in order to not putany more stress on our water system.

Golden’s water use is at its highest in the spring and summer, and lawn watering is a large contributor to this increased use.By being conscientious about our watering, residents can lessen the impact on the local water supply and distribution system,and on the environment.

Restrictions are put in place through a local bylaw so that people may water their lawns at appropriate times. Watering outsideof the hottest part of the day results in more effective watering during this seasonal peak demand period.

Residents may only water from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Odd numbered addresses are permitted to wateron odd days while even numbered addresses may water on even days. Automatic irrigation systems should be set to waterbetween 12 a.m. and 6 a.m.

It behooves everybody to be water conscious to ensure that we maintain our reservoir storage.
